      Texas Muslim Capitol Day 2017

      Texas Muslim Capitol Day is an opportunity for community members of all ages to visit the Texas State Capitol in Austin and learn about the political process and civic advocacy.  Attendees will meet with their elected officials. CAIR-Houston will be organizing buses to escort participants to Austin. Lunch will be provided.  Information you will need: All buses will leave at 6 am. Please let us know which location you plan to depart from and how many seats you require.  Departure locations: 1)    MAS-Katy, 1800 Baker Road, Houston, TX 77094 2)    Masjid As Salaam Champions, 16700 Old Louetta Road, Spring, TX 77379 3)    New Almeda Masjid (MCIS), 2222 Mansard Street, Houston, TX 77054 4)    Iman Academy Southeast, 825 Jetstream Court, Webster, TX 77598 5)    Iman Academy Southwest, 6240 Highway 6, Houston, TX 77083 Bring ID to board the bus. This will help us identify those who have registered for the trip and is important in case of an emergency. Additionally, you may need it at the Capitol. If you are traveling on your own:  Meet the group at the south steps of the Capitol building at 10:30am sharp for the press conference and rally.  After the rally go to the registration table at the First United Methodist Church at 1201 Lavaca Street, Austin, TX 78701 (on the west side of the Capitol). There is SOME metered parking around the Capitol and a parking garage for Capitol visitors located at 1201 San Jacinto Blvd., Austin, TX 78701. Parking for church business is available at all times in spaces marked “Church Business” in the church parking lot at 13th and Lavaca. Note that we will have increased security measures at the Capitol and with the Austin City Police Department.  Please look up your state representative before the event by going to http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/Home.aspx  Folders with information about visiting state representatives will be distributed on the buses or at the registration table.  A “Political Science 101” presentation will be given during lunch at the First United Methodist Church.
